I went to The Old Rauma Cellar the first time I visited Finland as it was the only place we could find that offered reindeer steak. This time I was coming back en-masse. I booked a table for 19 and was pleasantly surprised when they said that was no problem.

We are not that hungry, so we decide to skip starters. Or so we think. Fifteen minutes later a plate of salad turns up for everyone as if you do not order a starter, they just give you one for free anyway.

For the main I choose the grilled reindeer fillet. It comes with lingonberries, so just in case you do not feel guilty enough about eating Rudolf, you can even eat his little red nose too. I am not a fan of mushrooms but even I could not resist the chanterelles. The reindeer steak is pricy - €33 when others are around €24, but very tasty.

Elina has the beef tenderloin with blue cheese. There is more blue cheese than beef, which is a positive in Elina’s book.

For dessert Elina has the raspberries with white chocolate. It is exactly as described. The buckthorn berry parfait and the sorbet holds up too.

It is a cool place. I would have been nice to continue drinking on their terrace but sadly, as it was a Sunday, they closed at 10.
